Thesis II - Week 5
I feel like I am getting a lot done this week....
1. FINALIZING LOGO
2. MANIFESTO
3. SKILLSHARE PATTERN TUTORIALS
4. CROWD FUNDING
5. PRODUCT PRINTING SITES
1. FINALIZING LOGO
I ran the logo by Kathy and Meloney.... Kathy loved it but felt it needed a tittle Meloney liked it without the tittle, but suggested playing with truncating the i and tucking a tittle i (which I created in option 2) I ran it by a whole bunch of people at the Heemet Fescht this weekend. Most people read it no problem as nix nux and don't feel the tittle is necessary. My argument against the tittle is that visually is makes it unbalanced and disrupts the symmetry that echos the original purpose of blackletter type to fit tightly together. Still hard to decide, but I prefer 1.

2. MANIFESTO I am creating a line of products named nix nux that breath new life into traditional PA Dutch folk art designs. Taking inspiration both traditional PA Dutch folk art (fraktur, hex signs, quilts, braided rugs, woven pieces, etc.) and 30's-80's style PA Dutch kitsch surface pattern designs.
I want to reframe these inspiring motifs through my own experience of PA Dutch culture. I want to create wearables and everyday useable goods so that people can feel their ancestors against their skin and have daily reminders of their gorgeous folk art and the contributions that PA Dutch people made as pioneers in Pennsylvania and America.
3. SKILLSHARE PATTERN TUTORIALS
Also this week I am continuing to explore Skillshare courses that teach how to create patterns for surface design: Print On Demand for Artists: Painting to Pattern to Product, The Complete Process
4. CROWD FUNDING
I researched crowd funding sites:
Hatchfund (curated for artists only)
GoFundMe
KickStarter
I found Hatchfund was the best most legit site for my fundraising purposes. I started an account and creating my project, was assigned a project manager and we spoke last night. He's going to help be run a successful campaign.
5. PRODUCT PRINTING SITES
society6.com (great, they have comforters! But no kids products)
www.redbubble.com (they have kids stuff but only tees, also have comforters and great home products)
zazzle.com (I love zazzle, I used them for greeting card and they have great kids stuff. Some products had some quality flaws, but their customer service was pretty great!) https://www.zazzle.com/rachelyoderart
Ordered SpoonFlower's guide to printing with them and their samples- I'm so pumped!!!
