Rethinking text....
After meeting with Professor Meloney and Kayln and complaining about how I felt the text was getting in the way of my images.... it occurred to me that I was thinking about text in a very boxed in way. Kayln showed me a book she had designed that was just stunning. The text was all over the page, working as a most crucial element of the story as the images were. I realized that the text is like a character in the story and I need to treat it as a whole different beast.

First time using InDesign :)
I am loving InDesign! I have never used it and I am finding it very user friendly if you already know how to operate Adobe software. Can't wait to play with the layout of the book!!

Data Vis Installation
Lost a lot of sleep over this lady- but I love her so!! My family tree is missing some 'family' and including a lot of my lovely friends who hold me up when I need help and hope <3🌱❤#datavisualization #modernfamilytree#myfbfriendsrock

Books that are inspiring me!
I've been looking at a lot of children's books! I am so inspired!!
I have also been researching how I want to publish the book and have found Lulu and Blurb at the top of my list for viable options. With 5 weeks left in the semester to work- I need to get the book off to publish in 3 weeks! EEEEEEEEKKK!!!!! #nosleepforthecreative

Data vis tree UPDATE
I reworked the tree and it finally is working for me in the way that I envisioned. I just have to add a few more family members and create the key to explain the data. Feeling very relieved and excited that I was able to create something in a medium I don't usually use (sculpture). I also created the tree with a 360 view in mind, so it works from all angles. #PersonalExplorations

Data Vis Update! Deadline......
Soooooooo..... I was having a terrible time with my tree being top heavy and feared it would topple over. I had to deconstruct and reconstruct today.... still working on it. Adding finishing touches and hope to be done completely by tomorrow!! I realized while working on this that I have done many many many tree projects. I feel very connected to trees.... this makes me happy :)

Data Vis Update....
After getting feedback in class from Professor Meloney and Nancy- I decided to simplify my design again and make the data have more weight visually. I eliminated some irrelevant data points and sorted the people on the family tree based on three data points: 1. My immediate family that I connect with in reality (children, husband) 2. My friends and family that I connect with online 3. My friends that I only know online Been working on photo transfers on fabric- it's surprisi

Penny Olive Story Board
While writing the story for Penny Olive, I am realizing quickly that I have two stories happening simultaneously! I have the introduction story about basic fact that shape the character, and I have a story about a trip she goes on with her great-grandmother. In order to keep the first and introduction book short and sweet, I have decided to rewrite and split the two stories. Since I am writing for ages 6-8, I don't want to overwhelm the reader with too much information. I
©.....
I looked into © copyrighting the character since I had some issues with my work being used in a publication recently without my consent or knowledge and without giving me credit. It's really too expensive for me at the moment. But I am researching "Poor man's copyright": A widely circulated strategy to avoid the cost of copyright registration is referred to as the "poor man's copyright". It proposes that the creator send the work to himself in a sealed envelope by registere
